Hell of a Guy

Aftermath of the Blizzard of December 2009

12/20/2009

There is a huge difference in the weather today and the weather yesterday.  Saturday was a dark day most of the day.  At times we could hardly see further than a couple of hundred feet and the snow pummeled the earth and accumulated at a rapid rate.  I stuck a yardstick in the snow near our garage and the last time I saw read it before the sun went down last night it was right at 14”.  I took a measurement outside our basement door this morning and it read 17”.

Today there is hardly a cloud in the sky.  It is a beautiful day here in West Virginia, and brainy boy here decided we should check out the roads.  We just made a trip from the garage to the main road in the Wrangler, and yes, it was in 4-wheel drive.  We pushed snow all the way, and the last 500 feet we had to back up some and go forward as fast as we could, but would only make it about 50 ft each time.  When we finally made it we discovered the roads are almost as bad as our driveway so we turned around and came back.  There isn’t anyway we could have made it to town.  We almost made it back to the house before we got semi-stuck.  Luckily we were smart enough (actually The Nancy was the smart one) to take the snow shovels with us because we had to partially shovel the last 500-600 ft up the drive so we could get back to the garage.

So here I sit in the chair in the family room nursing my aching muscles and sore back.  I don’t see either of us going out anywhere tomorrow.  We may be imprisoned here in the house for a couple more days.  Now that isn’t as bad as it sounds, unless you take into account we are almost out of my favorite beverage, and may be forced to consume beer we keep for company, those being Bud Light and Miller Lite.  Then again, I don’t think there is anything that could coerce me to drink mass produced industrial swill.

And that is all I have to say about that…
